4 Great Reasons to Try An Aquatic Fitness Class

By Kate Cohen

Looking to mix up your workout routine?

Consider jumping into the water for an aquatic fitness class at Rosen Aquatic & Fitness Center!

These group workouts are fun, safe, and effective ways to stay active, burn calories, and brighten your mood.

Still need convincing?

Here are 4 reasons to try an aquatic fitness class.

1. It’s Low-Impact

When you take an aquatic fitness class, the water’s buoyancy supports muscles and joints in a low-impact way. This makes aquatic workouts ideal for anyone with injuries or joint discomfort.

Even if you don’t have joint issues, aqua fitness is a wonderful workout to complement other high-impact exercise and recover tired muscles.

Whether you run, lift weights, or compete athletically, working out in the water can be the perfect way to relieve tired muscles without sacrificing physical activity.

2. It’s a Full Body Workout

The same water that cushions joints and muscles also adds resistance for a full-body workout.

While you’re getting a great cardio workout from treading water, swimming, kicking, stretching, and lifting, you’re also building muscle strength as you do it all against the resistance of the water.

In addition to using bodyweight and movement to burn calories, some classes incorporate accessories like pool noodles, resistance bands, and kickboards to target specific muscle groups.

There’s no doubt that aquatic fitness is great for your physical health, but it’s also a wonderful way to improve your mental health, too. Exercising helps the body release endorphins, which are natural mood elevators that leave you feeling energized.

3. It’s a Great Way to Socialize

One of the biggest perks of taking any fitness class is the sense of community fostered by working out with others.

Surrounded by like-minded participants, you’ll find yourself making friends, laughing, and encouraging one another throughout your time together.

Having friends in your aquatic fitness class can help you stay consistent and keep you accountable when it comes to your workouts.

Knowing someone is looking forward to seeing you in class can be the best motivation when you need it most.

4. It’s FUN!

Aquatic fitness classes are among the most fun ways to exercise.

Not all workouts are created equal, especially when it comes to entertainment and enjoyment.

Upbeat music, passionate instructors, and dance-like movements make aquatic fitness classes engaging and exciting, perfect for anyone who may struggle with lack of interest toward more conventional workouts.

Ready to dip your toes into aquatic fitness?

RAFC offers two fun and splashy aquatic fitness classes for members: Aqua Zumba and Aquacise.

Aqua Zumba is a high-energy aquatic exercise inspired by South American Zumba rhythm and dance steps. Held in the heated indoor teaching pool, the shallow water class often feels more like a dance party than a strenuous workout.

Aquacise is a light to medium intensity workout that takes place in chest-level water. Participants use equipment and the water’s resistance to tone muscles, increase flexibility, and build endurance.

Both aquatic fitness classes are great for beginners and anyone in search of a low-impact cardio and strength workout.
